Presidency Message July-Aug-Sep 2024

Dear Sisters, I am thrilled to have been called to serve you in Relief Society! Although most of my experience has been serving in Primary, I have always had a great love and respect for the work of the Relief Society and the amazing sisters who are part of it. The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that the purpose of Relief Society is to save souls and relieve suffering. I have personally seen this great work unfold as sisters visit the temple, champion motherhood, keep their covenants, work in unity, and lift others. I know that we can accomplish incredible things together. I invite you to look for ways that you can help to save a soul or relieve someone's suffering, even with the smallest acts of love. We are daughters in God's kingdom, and we will work miracles! Love, Shana Olson

Ministering Moment

What a wonderful opportunity! Connecting with a sister, even in small and simple ways, gives me a chance to practice kindness, friendship, social skills, manners, curiosity, listening, bearing burdens and service. Ministering can give me an outlet to share my creativity and love with someone new. Ministering can give me someone to share my talents or garden or text messages with.
There are lots of things that I can’t do, that I can’t offer, that I don’t have time for. It’s easy to remember all of those things when I think of ministering. But there are some things that I can do, I can offer, that I do have time for. The opportunity to minister gives me a chance to connect with others and in doing so, my cup is filled and hopefully your cup is filled, together.
Thinking about the sisters that I minister to, here are some questions I can think about:
  • What connection do we already share? And can I continue to engage in and enjoy that part of our relationship? Is there another way I’d like to connect?
  • What do I admire about this person? And what do I not know, could ask about and find out more?
  • What ways do I like to reach out or connect with others, and what ways do I like people to reach out to me? Can I practice on the sisters that I minister to?
  • Do I pray for my sisters? Is there something that I could include in my prayer for them today?
Last thought. Someone told me recently that if I would like to receive ministering, I can invite my ministers over for a visit or call them up to chat or message them myself. Ha! I don’t know why it was mind-blowing to me but I loved it! Enjoy your connections these next few months!
